We often see thirsty bags. A bag needs to be cared for in the same way as your shoes or your car.
Here are a few tips for looking after your bag, satchel or other leather goods.
1 – no harsh soaps
2 – don’t use shoe polish at first
3 – Don’t use acetone or any other corrosive product to remove stains. Acetone will discolour your bag and that’s all there is to it.
The first step in maintaining your leather goods is to clean them regularly. Dust and dirt can build up on the surface of the leather, which can lead to stains or dulling. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface after each use. For a thorough cleaning, opt for a special leather soap or a solution of mild soap diluted in water. Apply the solution with a damp cloth, taking care not to saturate the leather, then wipe with a clean cloth.
Personally, I use SAPHIR cleaner for smooth leather. You’ll find it in any good cobbler’s shop. For other types of leather, crust leather, nubuck and suede, only cleaning is recommended using a crepe brush and a specific cleaning product.
Other brands exist, so ask your shoemaker.
